More than 1.7 million Syrian children currently live under temporary protection in Türkiye. Although they have the right to education, health care, and protection, approximately 400,000 of them remain out of school, and, according to UNICEF data, access to education is declining.
Despite the civil war in Syria having ended, many Syrian families who settled in various provinces and districts of Türkiye during the conflict continue to reside in the same areas. Children in these regions face the greatest challenges, as is the case in many tense areas worldwide.
During my recent trip, I visited the Sivrihisar district of Eskişehir, where I spent a day with Syrian children trying to adapt to life there. Those who attend school and their parents speak Turkish, but I found it difficult to communicate with many of the children. Many of these young boys and girls were born far from their homelands and endure significant hardships and poverty.
The children in these photographs, some of whom appear happy, serve as indicators of the injustice and inequality present in the world.
