The Unfolding Story

This is a short series of images to demonstrate the benefits of staying in one place, and allowing a story to develop.

The Unfolding Story

by Robert C Bannister

In street photography we are often looking for a good story to present, and of course view. Most of the time, just one image encapsulates just such.

If you Stay in one place, you can set up, compose and position yourself for the lighting. Then it is a matter of waiting for the protagonists to arrive.

Once you have your image or images, it is then time to create the art and present the picture in the best light. Pardon the expression, but it is just that which we aim to achieve. Then with an evocative title, we can channel the viewer into a story in their own mind, from our encouragement.

If that image, or series of images is in a gallery, and gathers a crowd, subsequently they stop and pause for a while, then we are a success. If they see or feel what you have seen, then we have accomplished!

Pause,

Full stop!

Whether you amble the streets or set up in one place, always look for a story.

I sat in a coffee shop, set up and clicked at the infinitely changing canvas.

“Build it, and they will come”

Taken from the 1989 film “Field Of Dreams”

Indeed a lovely story………

Chiaroscuro

CHIAROSCURO

by Siddhartha Mukherjee

A project where street scenes are cast into emphatic lights and shadows, in part inspired by the Renaissance painting technique, whence the name. It is one way to make the most out of a sunny day with harsh light. This technique of shooting is far from novel, and often goes by the names "exposing for the highlights", or "exposing to the left" - where the basic idea is to dramatically underexpose the shot, whereby large portions of the frame fall into the "shadows", with almost a geometric elegance. This can be used to emphasize or isolate a subject, at times leading to serendipitous results. These are some of my own experiments with this idea. [ Siddhartha Mukherjee ]

In the Bakery

by Batsceba Hardy

I got stuck to the window to take some close up and I found myself in a world of images ... Stand still and watch: so I discover the world around me... on the other side... sometimes the reflected reality is more visible than reality itself

People pass by

by Fabio Balestra

It all started when…

It all started when .... tired of walking to look for some interesting shots, I sat at a table in a bar, to drink a good glass of fresh white wine.
My eye focused on the background, a bakery, and taking advantage of the very tight and obligatory passage, I tried to create a sequence, I said to myself ... let's see how many people pass before me while sipping a glass of wine? believe me a lot :) [Fabio Balestra]
