Chiaroscuro

CHIAROSCURO

by Siddhartha Mukherjee

A project where street scenes are cast into emphatic lights and shadows, in part inspired by the Renaissance painting technique, whence the name. It is one way to make the most out of a sunny day with harsh light. This technique of shooting is far from novel, and often goes by the names "exposing for the highlights", or "exposing to the left" - where the basic idea is to dramatically underexpose the shot, whereby large portions of the frame fall into the "shadows", with almost a geometric elegance. This can be used to emphasize or isolate a subject, at times leading to serendipitous results. These are some of my own experiments with this idea. [ Siddhartha Mukherjee ]

sometimes the reflected reality is more visible than reality itself

In the Bakery

by Batsceba Hardy

I got stuck to the window to take some close up and I found myself in a world of images ... Stand still and watch: so I discover the world around me... on the other side... sometimes the reflected reality is more visible than reality itself

People pass by

by Fabio Balestra

It all started when…

It all started when .... tired of walking to look for some interesting shots, I sat at a table in a bar, to drink a good glass of fresh white wine.
My eye focused on the background, a bakery, and taking advantage of the very tight and obligatory passage, I tried to create a sequence, I said to myself ... let's see how many people pass before me while sipping a glass of wine? believe me a lot :) [Fabio Balestra]
