I want to get to know more about the Icelandic people and their enchanting land. Together, Tom, Charlie and I had journeyed through 3 of the 7 regions, and along 520 of its 1322 kilometres of Ring Road. Some might argue that we were 40% done, but of course that’s not true, we’d barely scratched the map. Apart from what we’d missed already, there’s still plenty to explore in the dramatic Westfjords, or the North and East Iceland regions, with their expansive hinterlands. But then again, a five day hike in summer could be good or even a trip in winter with the promise of spectacular skies. I’ve no idea what to cram into a new itinerary but that’s not what matters right now, I just know that I need to go back. I appreciate that the boys have their own commitments and other priorities so I’m likely to be going alone next time.

For now though, I’d like to say thank you to Tom and Charlie: You were great company and this book is for you.
