Tinglan Li's book is a mesmerising tapestry of poetry and imagery, inviting readers on a vivid journey through her homeland—Xinjiang.

Nestled within the rugged landscape of north-west China, this captivating region sits at the crossroads of Central and East Asia, displaying stunning scenery that varies from towering mountains to sweeping deserts. With a population of around 26 million, Xinjiang is a lively centre of diverse cultures and rich traditions, truly a melting pot of history and customs.

Through Tinglan’s evocative prose, we gain a glimpse into her cherished memories, steeped in the beauty and complexity of this remarkable land. With each page, she inspires us to connect with her personal narrative, urging us to feel the heartbeat of Xinjiang and understand the profound bond she shares with it.

Her reflections resonate deeply, reminding us of the power of place and identity as she opens her heart to the world.

B.H.

“As someone who was born and raised there, and who holds that land close to my heart, my reason for writing this book is straightforward: I want to share the genuine feelings that have stayed with me all these years.

That sense of happiness is built from real, tangible things—endless beautiful views, food you can't get enough of, music that follows you everywhere, colourful clothes you love to wear, and all the warm and wonderful people around you. Sure, life comes with its struggles no matter where you are—that's just being human. But what amazes me is how, in Xinjiang, this vibrant, bustling energy of life somehow melts away all those everyday worries. It really does feel like it's harder not to be happy there.

I genuinely believe that anyone who visits Xinjiang ends up feeling as though they've just returned from a long journey—bursting with stories and eager to share them with friends and family. Capturing that heartfelt sense of joy and harmony in these pages is my deepest tribute to my home, and my sincerest invitation to the world.”
