Reportage dated March 2018, by Davide Dalla Giustina
Roma Termini, Italy capital central station.
Average transit of 150.000.000 passengers per year, Termini is the hub that manages the most of the passengers transit out\in bound Italy.
The station is directly connected with the 2 lines of the metro, with the central bus terminal, taxis, local trains and tram that spreads tourists and locals to their final destination. It is the link of the city.
The security and the police are all around, together with the army order to contrast and defeat every kind of menace, and to grant the safety of the people that works there.
Furthermore restaurants, local food square, pubs, cafe’, shops, bookshops and markets giving the station huge choices of enjoyable services to waste or gain time awaiting for your itinerary connections.
Termini station is actually a small city, that embrace different kind of cultures and people.
The scope of that reportage is to tell stories of a normal day in the station and how lights and shadows can create something different of what our eyes can’t see.
….. or worse, we refuse to see.
This first part is a slight panorama for what is the potential, both artistic and humanistic to tell stories of fragmented life and vulnerable moments to catch in a day, with over 410k passenger moving every day as average in the station, that could be an inspiration for other street photographers in a different city.
As far as you can see, it is quite hard to understand who is the passenger and who is living as homeless inside the station, that is the second goal of my reportage, Zoo Station, part one.
The second part of the reportage will be more specifics about the conditions of the homeless in the respect of their privacy and how it contrasts or interacts with a people inside the station and how a local ONGs give support to those people, that are invisible… at the moment.
Thanks for your time, and to share this document as a proposal of human act.
